Deactivating servers

In https://api.playfab.com/docs/custom-game-servers it says to "be sure to deactivate your test servers when they are not actively in use" - is the suggested way of doing that --> remove all game modes? If I simply terminate the server, it starts a new one.

To de-activate a server, de-select the Region(s) in the Build settings, and save. If any active games are running, you'll need to terminate them before the server host will shut down.

Hi,

I've noticed you guys removed the checkbox to terminate a server from the Servers tab. How can we terminate (namely, reboot) a server now? Another question: the server id tag is also nowhere to be seen (that with the i-280f63a3 form), where can we find that identifier?

Thanks

The original question on this thread was an example of one of the reasons we removed the terminate button from the servers page - it was confusing, as it did not mean that you wouldn't have servers running anymore. To turn off servers in a region, just remove that region from the build settings. To kill a server instance - an actual running instance of your custom game server - you can terminate that from the Active Games tab.

If you ever believe you're seeing an issue with a server host, please feel free to open a ticket with us concerning the behavior you're seeing.

For the server ID tag, it wasn't really serving a useful purpose, apart from associating it to the server instance, which you can now do with the IP Address (we list that for the server host, and then that plus port for each instance).

Hi,

The server id tag was useful to us because we used it to identify a given server instance in the New Relic dashboard, as they both shared the same id. Now, as long as we can see, there's no way to match an instance here in PlayFab with its pair in New Relic.

Regards,

Alberto

Ah, of course - NewRelic. Yes, that does make sense. I'll put in a request to make sure that gets exposed.
