Matchmaking Preview

Hi,

We have been using the new Matchmaking preview system for a while now. We are wondering when it will be out of preview, and if there are any development risks that we need to think about, caused by it's current preview status? Thinks like APIs changing, or services which are currently live being removed?

Cheers,

Andy

As soon as we can provide a timeframe for any feature moving to General Availability, we'll be providing that in our roadmap page (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/gaming/playfab/roadmap/). In general, features in public preview are supported in live titles. The risks would be a) the documentation isn't complete yet, making implementation a bit more challenging and b) while we do complete testing and load testing for all core scenarios, there may be corner cases that could result in performance issues for the service. In most cases, we can account for this using a variety of techniques, including moving traffic to separate verticals or even simply adding capacity above what was predicted. However, as the matchmaking issue from a few weeks ago showed, there can be more complex issues that require additional work by our team to fully resolve the issue. Rest assured that when any issue occurs in the service, the engineering team is fully engaged in resolving the issue from when it is first detected, and stays on it until the issue is resolved.
