Viewing Playstream/Insight data with Tableau

Hi,

It's really cool to be able to query/view the Playstream event data directly from the portal. Though, is there a way we can connect to the database externally using lets say Tableau for example?

I've seen that Tableau has option to connect to Azure SQL Data Warehouse or a ODBC connection,
how would we go to about setting that up?

Thanks!

Yes, there is a possible way to do it. It is based on Amazon S3 bucket. PlayFab allows you to archive the entire event flow using the Amazon S3 bucket. If you're a Tableau user, we can get you the config files needed to set up a job to automatically propagate that data into database rows in Redshift. You can check this S3 event archiving for the steps required to configure event archiving from scratch. And you can check this doc to learn about the Amazon Redshift. If you are indie, pro, enterprise tier, you can request the config files using Ticketed Support, click the link for more details of PlayFab Support. If you are not, you can try to contact info@playfab.com, contact Brenden or join our community slack for more information.

About Azure, Currently, PlayFab only supports the Event Data Explorer which in the Game Manager portal. If you want to get you your events out of PlayFab and into your Azure Blob Storage (ABS) account, you need to use the feature Event Archiving (preview) which currently in Private Preview. If you are Pro and Enterprise tier, you can contact our team to access it. But it hasn’t been public yet.

Thank you very much for your answer @Sarah Zhang. Ill discuss with my team on our course of action. Which one do you think is simpler to implement and maintain afterwards?

Private preview features won't be so stable. You can try S3 currently.
