There's no limit on the number of players you can have each month in any tier of service. You could have that MAU total in the Essentials tier, if that's what you need. The difference between the tiers comes down to what limits you need, what support you need, and what Service Level Agreement (SLA) you need.
The Essentials tier has low limits - particularly when it comes to the PlayStream features, so you can't really build a full LiveOps campaign in it. It also has no SLA or private support (all support is via the forums).
The Indie tier has the higher limits of the Pro tier, but also has no SLA or private support.
The Pro tier has the higher limits, plus private support and SLA.
The Enterprise tier is basically the Pro tier plus your custom needs (start with Pro and adjust from there based on the specifics).
