I am trying to implement SMTP in order to implement that the user can reset his password. Now, looking at the add-on section under Pricing it just says: Varies. What does that mean? Can I just use the service with additional costs? And how much is that?

To be clear, it's not something you pay us for. What you need to do is provide the details of an SMTP server you are using for your emails. The reason the cost is variable is because different providers have different cost structures, and the number of mails you send is going to be a factor in determining total cost.
