PlayFab Pricing Questions: Indie Tier, Limits

Hello!

We're currently on the free plan to evaluate PlayFab but had a few questions about price:

Indie Tier

  • What are the requirements to qualify for the indie tier?
  • What is the best way to upgrade to the indie tier if we qualify?

Limits

  • Are the limits on the account different for the indie tier than the free/professional tier?
  • We noticed that the indie and professional accounts are free until we're live (1,000 registered players, or after the launch date). Is that true for upgrading limits as well or are we charged when we try to upgrade a limit?

The indie tier is an experiment we're trying with a small number of developers. If you'd like to put in for that, feel free to let us know at devrel@playfab.com. In short, it's intended for independent developers who are concerned about their title growing faster than they can work out their monetization, so it is limited to titles under 100K MAU (and we can provide feedback and advice on how to improve your overall monetization as part of transitioning you to the pro tier at that point).

Limit upgrades are distinct from the tiers of service. In the Basic (free) tier, limit upgrades are charged based upon total MAU, from when they are first activated.

@Brendan you posted some limit differences for the Pro tier last month here. Does that no longer apply, or are you just saying the Indie tier doesn't have any different limits from Basic by default?

That was the set of limits for the professional tier as of that date - it's best to talk through your limit requirements when we get you signed up for the pro tier, so that we make sure there haven't been any changes that could impact you. The indie tier does have higher limits than the basic tier, but it's an experimental tier we're testing right now, and we'll only be signing a few people up for it.
